|Nurse gets chop over baby mix-up |
|June 24, 2004|
A nurse has been dismissed and her two colleagues suspended following
a baby-swapping incident.
The baby-swapping discovery was made in April by one of the mothers, who found two name tags
on her baby.
The Limpopo Health Department yesterday said the mothers then had DNA tests that proved that the wrong
babies had been given to them.
Departmental spokesperson Phuti Seloba said: "Following the report, the nurse who dispatched
the babies from the (Polokwane) hospital was dismissed.
"One nurse was suspended for one month without pay, while the hospital's unit manager
got a two-month suspension without pay."
The hospital's deputy manager has yet to appear before the disciplinary committee.
